“The Mohawk” by Codman Hislop, 1948 illus. by Letterio Calapai, 1st ED w/ DJ

This book details the history and story of life along the Mohawk River. Published Rinehart & Company, New York, this book is part of a series of books known as the Rivers of America. This book has wonderful woodblock illustrations by Letterio Calapai (1902-1933), who was an outstanding realist painter and print maker.

The book is in very good condition, with its original dust jacket. The dust jacket edges are worn and faded and there is some discoloration of the title page. There is a personal book plate on the inner cover, and a National Wildlife Conservation stamp of hawkweed and butterflies was placed in the book at the title page and has become affixed.
