mid-19th cent. hollow cut silhouettes in gold frames
A pair of small mid-19th century hollow cut silhouettes of a man and a woman. We believe they may be a couple, based on the similarity of the paper and background and that they face each other, but cannot be sure. Both of them are done in hollow cut technique, where the image is cut out of the center of paper and then backed with dark paper backing. This technique is more difficult than traditional cut out silhouettes, where the images are cut in black paper and mounted on lighter background. Neither silhouette is signed and the subject is not identified.
Each of the silhouettes is framed in a nice early gold frame.
The silhouettes are priced separately at $125.00 each.
