Book: A Labrador Doctor, Autobiography of Wilfred Grenfell, 1st Ed. 1919

First Edition of “A Labrador Doctor:  Autobiography of Wilfred Thomason Grenfell”, published in 1919.  A medical missionary originally from England, Grenfell founded the Grenfell Mission, operating in Newfoundland and Labrador.  The mission worked with the aboriginal population and included medical assistance, work training and an orphanage.  The mission produced hand made goods, including hooked rugs and Christmas cards, which are now quite collectible.

The book has a cloth cover with gold lettering.  Published in 1919, this is a first edition.  It is in good condition; there is some warping of the fabric cover on the front and side and the corners are worn.  The illustrations and paper covers are intact.  It is signed in pencil by a prior owner, who lived on 5th Avenue in NYC.
