18th Century Coin Silver Serving Spoon Joseph Rust Boston c.1790
A wonderful example of 18th century American coin silver. A large coffin end bright cut serving spoon, made by Joseph Rust (1763-1814), a Boston silversmith working in Boston from 1785-1795. The spoon has a great bright cut cartouche with bellflower trail on the front; it is monogrammed with entwined cursive LT letters. On the back, the spoon has a deep rounded drop and a raised design on the bowl. It is marked RUST on the back handle.
The spoon measures 9 1/2 inches in length and is in good condition. There is an early repair to the bowl, which is difficult to see, but we have photographed it as best we can.
