1840s Albany Stoneware Jug, John Brickner cobalt mark
This is a nice early stoneware piece from Albany, made by John Brickner, who worked in Albany from 1844-1847 and was located at 22 Washington Street. The jug has a nice patina with a matte salt glaze finish.
It is undecorated, but does have Brickner’s name and address stamped on the side with cobalt staining to the letters. It is in great shape, with no cracks or loss of glaze; there is one small chip on the lip that occurred pre-firing, as it is under glaze; you can see it in the detail photo of the Brickner stamp mark.
